Goodbye, 318 Needham St!

I have some bittersweet news I’d like to share. I have made the decision to not renew my lease at 318 Needham St.

This is something I have prayerfully considered for a while, and the decision didn’t come easily…at first, as I know this place has been a light to so many, and has been an incredible source of joy for me, especially during the loss of our son, Raylan, last April.

Recently, however, I became overwhelmingly at peace with this choice and in the final days of decision making, so many things came together in perfect timing to solidify that I made the right choice.

The long version of this story is this: I have experienced continued fertility issues since we lost Raylan last year. Being pregnant, and losing him halfway through made me realize how much I want to be a mother :) I’m beginning to feel a gentle nudge to slow life down even more, and make that my focus.

Additionally, my pregnancy was very difficult physically, last time around. While I had always planned to work through a pregnancy up until deliver, that was just not going to be possible, and although I don’t want to try and anticipate difficulty again, if and when I do become pregnant again, I don’t want to have to stress over a huge choice, which is why I am making it now.

This is NOT the end of Make Studio. Given the opportunity to do this again, I would in a heartbeat! I love this place. I love the community WE have created together. Many of you are now lifelong friends. But my life requires a different direction from me, for right now anyway.

Obviously I cannot stop creating, and plan to have even more time to craft, bake, whatever my heart is feeling, without the stress of running a business. I will keep my Instagram and e-mail open to continue connecting creatively with our beloved community.

While I won’t be actively seeking opportunities at first, I’m open to continuing parties/teaching in other capacities - however that may look.

Logistically speaking, this is what the rest of June looks like for the studio: I will be available by appointment (call/text 209-606-5511). I will also be trying to sell my inventory, so all studio appointments will be JUST the cost of the craft kit you purchase, NO studio fee!

If you are scheduled for a workshop, or private lesson, nothing will change, we will continue with the workshops through the end of June. New classes that have no had any sign ups have been closed.

If you want to come in for a last hurrah, make an appointment and let me know! I’d love to see you!

Finally, I am SO grateful to all of you, who helped me realize my dream, and for all of the support along the way. I could not have done this without you all. Thank you for showing up, supporting local business, supporting ME, and sharing your beautiful families with me. These last two years were NOT wasted, they were filled with purpose and gave me so much more than glitter, glue and crafting!

I’ll see you around :)
Love, Lana

We are located on Needham Street right next to the vegan cafe. If you’re coming from McHenry, continue onto J St. and turn right onto 15th (at Dewz). Keep going until you reach Needham and turn right. It’s the pink door, right after the cafe!
